The characterization includes determinations of physical properties and comprehensive chemical analyses of water from various sources. The laboratories are also fully equipped to carry out application testing over a wide range of treatment technologies.

Gas Chromatography equipped with Mass Spectrometry and Flame Ionization Detection (GC-MS/FID) for the determination and identification of volatile and semivolatile hydrocarbons and organics.

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for the quantification of soluble organics in aqueous and non-aqueous media.

Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) for the determination and identification of soluble organics and field chemicals.

Ion Chromatography (IC) for the determination of anions in general, major cations and soluble organic acids in aqueous media.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry - Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (FTIR-TGA) for the characterization of organic matter in solids.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) for the measurements of trace metals and some nonmetals in solution.

UV-Visible Spectrophotometry (UV-Vis) for the general characterization of soluble organics in solution and wet chemical analyses.

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for the characterization of minerals in deposits/solids and semi-quantitative elemental analyses.

Laser Particle Size Analysis for the determination of suspended and dispersed particle size distribution.

Optical Microscopy for the general characterization of emulsions, solids and deposits/residues of membrane fouling.

Skalar Primacs SNC100 for analyzing carbon fractions as well as total nitrogen in solid samples.

The GWSC labs are fully equipped to carry out bench-scale and pilot-scale testing for the development of innovative water treatment solutions.

Our facility houses standard and customized membrane equipment, novel filtration units, an ozonation system, jar testers and membrane bioreactors that enable the evaluation of a wide range of treatment technologies. Abilities to test over a wide range of pressure, temperature and pH are available.
